Agaricus blazei Murill is very popular in Japan. It has been the best-selling health supplement since 2001.
Agaricus blazei Murill was recognized to be an immunity boosting health supplement by the FDA.
Agaricus blazei Murill is well known in the USA. Former President Mr. Ronald Reagan has been taking Agaricus blazei Murill ever since he was found to have developed malignant carcinoma.

Agaritine purified from Agaricus blazei Murrill exerts anti-tumor activity against leukemic cells
The study performed by the Department of Biology, Faculty of Medical Technology, Fujita Health University School of Health Sciences, Japan indicates that agaritine from Agaricus blazei Murrill has direct anti-tumor activity against leukemic tumor cells.
Interleukin-12- and interferon-gamma-mediated natural killer cell activation
Studies performed by the Department of Immunology, Juntendo University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan, reported that the oral administration of Agaricus blazei Murill augmented cytotoxicity of natural killer (NK) cells.
Suppressing effects of daily oral supplementation of beta-glucan extracted from Agaricus blazei Murill on spontaneous and peritoneal disseminated metastasis
The study performed by Hamamatsu University School of Medicine, Japan suggests that treatment with beta-glucan may be beneficial for cancer patients with or at risk for metastasis.
Antitumour and anti-metastatic actions of Agaricus blazei Murill
Studies performed by Ehime University, Japan suggest that the antitumor and antimetastatic actions of sodium pyroglutamate may be associated with inhibition of the reduction of immune response caused by tumor growth and tumor-induced neovascularization. This is the first report showing sodium pyroglutamate isolated from Agaricus blazei Murill as an anti-angiogenic substance has potent antitumor and antimetastatic actions, as well as immune-modulatory activity.
Stimulation of lymphocyte T-cell subsets by the polysaccharides from Agaricus blazei Murill
According to the research done by Kobe University, Japan, Agaricus blazei Murill may be an effective prophylactic, protecting humans against cancer by stimulating lymphocytes such as cytotoxic T-cells (with significant increases in the %es of Thy 1,2-(pan T-cells), L3T4-(CD4, helper T-cells), and Lyt2- (CD8, cytotoxic T-cells) +ve cell populations).
Direct inhibition of angiogenesis induced by solid tumours
The study performed by Ehime University, Japan suggests that the anti-tumour activity of ergosterol might be due to the direct inhibition of angiogenesis induced by solid tumours.

Intraperitoneal administration of ergosterol at doses of 5, 10 + 20mg/kg for 5 consecutive days inhibited the neovascularization induced by Lewis lung carcinoma cell packed chambers, suggesting that either ergosterol or its metabolites may be involved in the inhibition of tumour induced neovascularization.

* LLC: Lewis lung carcinoma is a cancer that aggressively and rapidly spreads to other organs of the body.

Augmentation of antitumour effect with simultaneous use of Agaricus blazei Murill and chemotherapeutic agent
Another investigation carried out by Mie University indicates that the combination use of FIII-2-b (Agaricus blazei Murill polysaccharide) and 5-FU (a common chemotherapeutic agent) strongly inhibits the development of implanted tumour. It was found that the %es of splenic Thy1.2, L3T4- and asialo GM1- +ve cells were significantly increased.

This experiment proves that the concomitant applications of Agaricus blazei Murill and chemotherapeutic agent enhance the overall antitumour effect.

The subject patients were presenting the general clinical expression of chronic hepatitis including fatique, dull pain in the liver, ascites, spider-like nevus and liver palms, jaundice....

After the 3 months treatment period with Agaricus blazei Murill, the conditions of experimental group patients were checked against those of the control group. The control group patients received the same standard treatment for liver disease during the experiment.

The result suggests that there was a remarkable change in values including ALT, AST, Bilirubin, Serum ferritin, g-globulin.....etc. It is conceived that Agaricus blazei Murill has satisfactory therapeutic effects on hepatopaths.
